BS25999 is the emerging standard for Business Continuity Management. It is scheduled to be published late in 2006 and early in 2007, in two parts.

It will have a major impact upon BCM as a whole, and will undoubtedly become a world wide force very quickly indeed.

BS25999's Lifecycle Approach

BS 25999-1 adopts a lifecycle approach to business continuity management. This consists of 6 elements, as indicated in the diagam below:

The six elements are: Business continuity programme management; Understanding the organization; Determining strategy; Developing a BCM response; Excersising, maintining and reviewing; Embedding into culture. This of course is reflected by the sections of the standard itself, and is fundamental to the whole approach.
