BS25999 is the emerging standard for Business Continuity Management. It is scheduled to be published late in 2006 and early in 2007, in two parts.

It will have a major impact upon BCM as a whole, and will undoubtedly become a world wide force very quickly indeed.

The ISBN of the document is: 0580496015 and of course is copyright BSI (2006)

It can be obtained as a PDF from the BSI's online distributor at Standards Direct or on paper from their general site. Equally, it can be obtained with range of supporting items as part of the BS25999 Toolkit.

Part two the standard is still in the development cycle, with late 2007 being the current target date for publication. This is subject to change of course.

The second part will be a specification for a business continuity management system (BCMS). It is against this that certification will eventually be offered. Hence, it should be understood that part 1 of the standard, as a CoP (Code of Practice) is in the form of guidance and recommendations. This part should not be quoted as though it were the specification itself.

DEVELOPMENT CONTRIBUTORS

BS25999-1 was developed by Technical Committee BCM/1. This committe comprised representation from a wide range of both public and private organizations. These are listed on a specific page (see right hand panel). Note also that many other parties were involved, with comments and other feedback being provided via draft publications published for general access.
